is proud to have been the Pioneer of Kids and Family Yoga in Canada since 1997. Since that time, Temmi has
received extensive media coverage for her innovative work
with children and families. Temmi’s training and ongoing
consultations in teaching yoga to children has been exclusively
in India with Geeta Iyengar, (the daughter of Sri BKS Iyengar)
who has had over thirty years of experience in teaching yoga
to children at schools in India. Together, Geeta and Temmi
have created a chapter on teaching Yoga to Children in Dharana,
a commemorative book celebrating Mr. Iyengar’s 80th
birthday.
Temmi also offers “Through the YogaBuds™ Lens”,
an Intensive Training program on how to teach Yoga to children.
She also design-builds unique yoga and YogaArt workshops for
public and private schools as well as offering ongoing workshops
in her studio for students of all ages. Temmi is a wellness
workshop facilitator and has presented dozens of workshops
to many corporations in the Toronto area since 1990.
Temmi's Path...
At
the age of fourteen, Temmi was drawn to the study of meditation. Her mother's fear of Temmi attending a Transcendental Meditation
course alone led to Temmi’s
independent study of meditation in a winged-back chair in
her family’s recreation room. After returning from studying
at university abroad, Temmi noticed a sign advertising a new
yoga class at York University. She registered, and after attending
that first class, something was awakened in her, and Temmi
has never stopped studying, or attending yoga classes and
workshops around the world.
Temmi holds three university degrees including
a Masters of Arts degree in Expressive Therapies, a Bachelor
of Education degree in Special Education with a Level II Specialist
award, and an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She is
a registered Art Therapist with the American Art Therapy Association;
a clinical member of the Ontario Association of Consultants,
Counsellors, Psychometrists, and Psychotherapists; and, a
member of the Canandian Iyengar Yoga Teachers Association.
From 1989 – 1994 Temmi taught graduate courses at the
Toronto Art Therapy Institute. She was also one of the only
Iyengar yoga teachers to teach adult classes at the Toronto
Yoga Show and Conference from 2003 – 2006. In 2004,
Temmi and her YogaBuds™ kids performed a sixteen minute yoga
demonstration at the Toronto Convention Centre.
Temmi is also a trained family therapist
and has spent several years providing individual, couple and
family therapy in both clinical settings and in private practice.
As an artist, Temmi was selected as one of the Toronto area
artist commissioned to paint a moose (“Santa Moose”)
in the “Moose in the City” exhibit held in the
summer of 2000.
Teaching Yoga: Her Life's Passion
Temmi brings to her teaching her varied areas of education,
experience and expertise. Her personal style embodies compassion,
acceptance and strength.
What differentiates Temmi from the scores of other yoga teachers
is her very empathic, sensitive and supportive nature and
her uncanny ability to deeply connect with and relate openly
and professionally with students of all ages and stages. This
rare ability to connect with others combined with her varied
life experiences, education, skills and talents result in
a multidisciplinary type of practitioner and teacher/healer
who instills trust and ease in each student as she guides
them along their own yogic path. By truly embodying the yogic
lifestyle, Temmi models this to all of her students in a very
authentic and genuine way, and she has the ability to empower
people to create change in their lives while harnessing the
transformative power of yoga.
Temmi
is a thorough and knowledgeable instructor whose love for
yoga is both inspiring and infectious. Her teaching conveys
her compassion for people, her passion for yoga, and her commitment
to accessing both the Divine and creative spirit within. Her
fine teaching skills create a rich atmosphere for learning,
fostering an integration of mind, body and spirit. She has
successfully woven yoga into the fabric of her live and her
students learn how to take their yoga off the mat and into
their lives.
A mother of three young children, Temmi attributes her healthy
pregnancies to her yoga practice. Her passion for combining
yoga and children grew when her own babies began their practice
of yoga alongside her. In 1997, she founded the Toronto-based
YogaBuds™ for Kids non-competitive yoga program designed for
children ages 5 – 15 years. Temmi and her husband are
devoted to raising spiritually-conscious children, and practice
a yogic lifestyle in their home.
